Margaret Livingston

Sticking to the old stereotype
The city girl smokes a cigarette
As she slowly descends the tight steps
Of a quarter-turn spiral staircase
In her sleek stainless steel stilettos.
Smirking with a dismissive head nod
She is sour, but should be sweeter.
Instead, her act simulates a shock
Equivalent to a glass of orange
Juice seconds after brushing one's teeth.
Sipping, I stick to word origins.
